All photographs were taken between the opening and closing ceremonies of the 29th Olympic Games in Beijing, People’s Republic of China, August 2008.
In August 2008 I spent two weeks in Beijing during the 29th Olympic Games. My aim was to create a photographic essay of the Games and the city. The main sporting events at any Olympics are well covered by press photographers working for newspapers and agencies, so I resolved instead to shoot “Around the Games” – photograph the visitors, the venues and the city itself as it hosted what was billed as the most spectacular Games ever.
